Inequality Talks is a podcast from the volunteers at Mellemfolkeligt Samvirke, Aarhus. Through discussion, debate, and interview, each episode explores a different concept, problem, or idea relating to issues of inequality (economic, gendered, racial, or otherwise). Each episode aims to offer an overview for the uninitiated before diving into the significance of current events, the complexities of what a given idea might mean, and what alternatives to the current status quo might look like in practice. This project has been supported by: ’Den almennyttige fond af 15. september 1968’.

Today we will be talking about the problem of food waste and how policies can support alternatives that try to address this problem. One such alternative is the NGO Skraldecafeen which works tirelessly to fight food waste in Denmark. Annbritt Jørgensen, who started the organization, is with us today to help us move one step closer to understanding the complexities of food policies in Denmark.
This episode is made as part of the Our Food Our Future initiative. The initiative, co-funded by the European Commission, is an international coalition of civil society organizations working towards changing the global food system to be sustainable and socially just. In Our Food Our Future Denmark, we try to bring issues of food justice to the forefront of public debate.
Food waste is a crucial topic when we discuss food justice, especially when we talk about the amount of food that is wasted up against the number of people suffering from food insecurity. We look forward to learning more about how we can improve our food systems to be less wasteful and more equal.
We’ve got a lot going on in Mellemfolkeligt Samvirke, Aarhus. We are a Danish NGO that works for a more just and sustainable world, collaborating with global partners worldwide as part of the ActionAid Alliance.
Here in Aarhus we have over a hundred volunteers working together to run a not-for-profit cafe and campaign and educate in areas ranging from feminism and climate justice to anti-discrimination and economic inequality to queer issues and refugee rights.
You can come down to Cafe Mellemfolk every day but Sunday for amazing food, drinks, and events in a cosy cafe run by our lovely volunteers.
You can also get involved with our events, activities, and campaigns, and even running the cafe, as a volunteer yourself.
So check out Instagram and Facebook to find out more about our cafe and our campaigns, by looking up Cafe Mellemfolk or Mellemfolkeligt Samvirke, Aarhus or following the links in the episode notes. And check out Podbean, Youtube, and other podcast providers for more episodes, interviews, and cool stuff.
